The Best Way to Go About Detangling Hair

Step 1: Wash and condition your hair.

Wash and condition your hair as you normally would, adding some extra conditioner to the tangled parts. Try out Love Beauty and Planet Blue-Green Algae & Eucalyptus Shampoo and Conditioner. This formula works to nourish your weak strands, making your hair strong and smooth.

Step 2: Lightly towel dry your hair.

You’ll need your hair to be wet or slightly damp when you get rid of your tangles. Use a towel to lightly dry your hair.

Step 3: Apply a detangling leave-in to your hair.

Getting rid of tangles means you’ll need some help via a detangling leave-in conditioner. Use some TRESemmé Pro Pure Detangle and Smooth Leave-In Conditioner, which can work to target your problem area (a.k.a your knots) as makes hair smooth. This formula will also provide your hair with some slip as it’ll help to glide your comb down your hair shaft.

Step 4: Gently pull apart your hair.

Use your hands to gently pull apart your hair as you finger comb your tangles.

Step 5: Work in sections.

Divide your hair into workable sections. Take a tangled section and use a wide-toothed comb or a detangler brush. Start at the top of your tangle as you work your way down, combing or brushing at your hair. Repeat this motion until the section is tangle-free. This part may hurt depending on how big your hair tangle is, but don’t give up. You’ll be amazed at how effective the comb, brush and pull method is if you are consistent with this motion.

Step 6: Repeat the de-tangling process.

Work section-by-section as you repeat the detangling (a.k.a. pulling) process. If your hair is particularly dry or frizzy from all of the pulling, apply some hair oil, like Nexxus Clean & Pure Nourishing Detox 5-in-1 Invisible Hair Oil, to hair when you are done.

Step 7: Learn from your past.

The annoying thing about tangles (other than the tangles themselves) is that they can easily come back. To prevent tangles, make sure to always use conditioner on your hair and to brush and/or comb your hair every single time after you shower. Leaving hair without being brushed can lead to tangled hair. Also, be sure to use a leave-in conditioner and hair oil as a part of your hair care regimen.
